Times have certainly changed, with the events landscape altered indefinitely due to COVID-19.

Here at NSR we are adapting to the new normal and we are able to safely provide audio/visual equipment to stage virtual conference and seminar events while we ease out of lockdown.

We are also working hard to put measures in place to be able to safely provide communications equipment for when lockdown is further eased, and event organisers are able to stage face to face socially distanced conferences and seminars.

All our equipment is deep cleaned and sanitised between every project with a reduced team, wearing appropriate PPE, to set-up and breakdown.

For further information on how we can work together in this new normal email sales@nsrcommunications.co.uk. We look forward to working with you very soon.

This was the case for The Vitality Big Half, which was staged recently in London, where NSR were charged with installing the PA systems for the event. The whole set-up for the event had to be completed overnight before the competitors arrived to take part the next day.

Take a peek at some of the highlights from this year’s Vitality Big Half.

With just a two-week lead time the NSR team go to work preparing for one of the biggest light shows in Europe; The Festival of Light!

This amazing show has been traveling around the world, arriving in Birmingham from the Middle East, where the NSR team was contracted to rig the sound to all the light exhibits for its 10-day run located in Birmingham’s famous Bull Ring.

After it closed on 2 February, the light show shipped off across the channel to Paris before returning to the UK, where NSR met it in Southampton to rig the sound again for another 10-day run from 13 to 23 February.

With many brand-new installations this year, it was an experience not to be missed!

The Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) is the biggest week in the equestrian calendar and NSR was right in the thick of it again this year!

A split 5-man team spends 10 days on site, before, during and after, supplying the Show’s complex communication systems. This includes a production unit for the Top Spec Arena to house the commentary team and the arena’s stewards as well as multiple screens showing International Arena footage and scoreboard information. In addition, the team set-up PA systems for the Top Spec Arena, stabling area, horse walk, both collecting rings and some components for the International Arena. If that wasn’t enough there’s also the HOYS Live Zone Area where NSR also install screens and audio systems.

The Show dates back to 1949 when just 400 entries were taken, today HOYS welcomes 1,600 horses and ponies, 1,500 competitors and 65,000 spectators over the 5 days of competition and equestrian displays.

For any equestrian enthusiast this is the event to attend and NSR is proud to have been an integral supplier to the Show for many years and the team looks forward to being invited back again next year.

As the old saying goes; ‘Never work with children or animals’, but at this time of year it is par for the course for the NSR team as they near the end of the Point to Point season and get into full swing with Horse and County Shows!

After a ‘marathon’ month in April the team makes the leap from running on two legs to being surrounded by an array of four legs belonging to horses, cows, sheep, goats and pigs! NSR will be splitting into several teams this month for the Royal Windsor Horse Show, two point to points and seven county shows, which will take the team all over the south of England from Windsor to Cornwall and from Somerset to Hertfordshire and several venues in between.

Thousands of metres of cabling will be used to rig multiple PA systems at each event, much more than a handful of hand held radios and radio mics will be in use for commentators and stewards to keep in touch on show days and NSR’s store of commentary units will be deserted as they will all be out and about at different show locations accommodating organising and commentary teams.

Just to add to an already busy month NSR also has two sporting events, without a four legged animal in sight; the Hackney Half Marathon, which this year has expanded into a 3-day festival adding to the audio supply list, and The Vitality 10K in London in aid of Action Medical Research for children.

So, there could not be a better time for the sun to make an appearance; for some glorious summer days to enjoy this forthcoming county show season.

The first weekend found the team out in Paternoster Square in St Paul’s, London setting up for the first of the 2019 Adidas City Runs, supplying PA systems for the competitors area and start line, which will be followed by two further City Run events in July in Shoreditch and the third later in the year in November in Fulham. However, this was just a warm up for a ‘marathon’ month as the team is also involved with not one, but two marathons this month; the Brighton Marathon and the Virgin Money London Marathon.

The Brighton Marathon came hot on the heels of the City Run event the following weekend and saw the NSR team transport two of their first-class Production Units down to the Brighton coast to house the production teams at the start and finish of the race. A two tier unit was located at the start area at Preston Park and a single tier unit was located that the finish line on Madeira Drive. The sun shone on the competitors over the weekend and one couple even got married half way round, with the bridge throwing her bouquet into the crowd as she ran past with her husband!

The last weekend in April sees the team pulling out all the stops for the Virgin Money London Marathon, an event NSR has been involved with since it began back in 1981 when just over 6,000 runners took part. Today, this international event, has grown exponentially with over 40,000 runners competing last year. NSR has its work cut out over this weekend with multiple PA systems at Blackheath, the start area of the race, as well as Production Units in a few different locations, wireless microphones for the commentary team, televisions for the hospitality areas, megaphones for the stewards, the supply list goes on!

Stamina is the main ingredient for NSR in April; as it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon!
